Hello! Welcome to my page.
I’m a writer and biologist. I grew up moving all around the world (Spain, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Egypt) with my parents, who are journalists, and my sibling. After graduating from high school in Cairo, I headed to California for college. Through my courses I fell in love with learning about ecosystems and the other species we share our world with. There is such a beautiful symphony to this earthly biome that I think we have a lot to learn from as we try to untangle the systems that have caused climate change and a biodiversity crisis.
I started working in the field as a wildlife technician and fell into the immersive lifestyle it required. I worked on various remote islands. One of those, in Antarctica, inspired me to write a book, called The Last Cold Place (published by Simon & Schuster). I have always enjoyed writing but this was a unique opportunity to tell the story of a region that is very remote and often not part of our conversations around climate change— despite it warming at some of the fastest rates in the world. Plus, penguins!
After many years of field work, I decided to head back to school to get my master’s in conservation biology. I studied in New Zealand, and lived there for three years, working as a climate change and sustainability advisor. I moved to Sweden in May 2023 to complete a Mater’s in Agroecology. I am more interested now in how we can intertwine human systems with ecology, and I have always had a soft spot for farming.
During my Master’s I started thinking about where I wanted to be next, and decided to move back to Spain (where my father’s family is from). I studied Holistic Management with the Savory Institute, becoming an Accredited Professional. I’m currently training to carry out ecological monitoring on farms in Spain as part of the Ecological Outcome Verification Program.
During my thesis project, I got to do field work in the Spanish countryside, and became interested in rural depopulation, generational renewal in agriculture and how the transition from conventional to regenerative farming is playing out under current policies. As a result, I’m currently working on a book proposal to write about all the amazing and inspiring young regenerative farmers in Spain producing different goods across different regions. I’m excited to keep learning about ecology, agriculture and get to explore this beautiful country.
